Sheri Desaretz

I'm the founder and president of Looking Forward Coaching, LLC, a business and executive coaching/consulting firm. I am an executive and business coach/consultant who works with executives, professionals, business owners, and people in career transition. I utilize a very direct and results-oriented, yet compassionate, style, enabling my clients to more closely examine who they are and how they operate, in order to recognize and define the obstacles which obstruct the fulfillment of their professional and personal goals. I facilitate the creation of new and enriching opportunities for my clients, affording them (and by extension, their professional firms, companies and organizations), greater profitability and realization of their professional and personal goals. The enhanced efficiency achieved in the management of their professional and personal goals. The enhanced efficiency achieved in the management of their professional lives tangentially affords my clients better balance and satisfaction in their personal lives, and more control of the decision-making necessary for the achievement of the long-term lifestyles they wish to create. I help my clients position themselves to achieve their desired level of success, both professionally and personally, working within their own agendas, and on their own terms.

My life history has enabled me to be particularly well-suited to coaching. I'm a "recovering" attorney and lifelong entrepreneur. My eclectic work experience has taken me from my early days as both a bicycle messenger and taxicab driver in New York City, to the formation, ownership and operation of a moving and trucking company, and on to a twenty-year stint as an attorney, owning and managing my own Philadelphia- and New Jersey-based litigation law firm. I have also had broad experience in writing, both as an attorney and as a weekly columnist for the Courier Post newspaper in southern New Jersey. I currently contribute articles on a regular basis to various business publications. I also do a business radio spot on KYW News Radio in Philadelphia, reporting on topics of current interest to those in the business world. My extensive and unique entrepreneurial, legal and business background, along with a prevailing interest in supporting others, has enabled me to offer my clients exceptional value in the coaching/consulting process. This has afforded me success and great fulfillment in the coaching/consulting field.

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, President's Scholar, from Temple University in 1977, and a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Law School in 1980. I completed my coach training and graduated from the internationally recognized coaching school Coach University. I'm a member of the professional coach organization - The International Coach Federation.

My clients comprise a diverse group of professionals, executives, and business owners in a wide variety of industries (both in well-established companies, and in the "start-up" stage), as well as professionals in career transition. These include (but are not limited to):

  • Professionals, including attorneys, accountants, financial planners, physicians, architects, engineers, human resources managers, academics, IT, and others;
  • Executives in various corporate/organizational settings, both for-profit and not-for-profit, including industries such as law, insurance, banking, health care, pharmaceuticals, marketing/pr, real estate, manufacturing, news media, education, sales, and others;
  • Business owners with operations of all sizes, in a wide variety of industries.

My coaching/consulting style was formed, in part, by my experience with my clients. I've seen that coaching is most effective when the client is willing to address, with honesty and integrity, where they currently are in their professional and personal lives, how and why they got here (the hard stuff), and where they'd like to see themselves, going forward. I've come to believe that real change can't be fully sustained, with any consistency, without the client gaining an understanding of these issues. Given that, I'm conscious of the face that my clients benefit from some degree of introspection, as doing so enables them to understand the source of their behavior and then allows them to successfully implement the changes that will afford them the successful futures they desire, on their own terms.

In addition to my private and group practice I often work with firms, companies and organizations in a consultant/training role, supporting their needs in areas such as a business development, networking and marketing, practice/business management, business ownership concerns, oral and written communication skills development, team building, staff concerns, productivity, operations, time management/organization, work/life balance, and career transitions. I also do speaking engagements, presenting public and private seminars, workshops, webinars, and on-line classes on these, and other, topics.

My promise to my clients : I'm committed to excellence in my work with my clients and with their organizations, as I recognize that they're investing not only their time and money but, as importantly, their energy and intention to move forward, trusting that I will be a valuable partner in that process. This deserves my deepest respect and highest effort.
